Moving IBC tanks requires specialized handling. These 275- and 330-gallon containers weigh between 100 and 165 pounds empty and significantly more when loaded. Improper transport leads to damaged cages, cracked bottles, and broken valves. Our transport team has the equipment, experience, and insurance to move your tanks safely -- whether that means a single tote across Omaha or a full truckload across state lines.
We operate our own fleet of flatbed and liftgate trucks out of our facility at 8520 G St, Omaha, NE 68127. For long-distance and high-volume shipments, we partner with vetted carriers who specialize in bulk container logistics. Every vehicle in our fleet is maintained on a strict preventive maintenance schedule, and every driver holds current CDL certification with hazmat endorsement.
Whether you are ordering 2 tanks for a backyard rain harvesting project or 200 for a manufacturing facility, we will find the most cost-effective and timely shipping solution. Our logistics team handles everything: route planning, load optimization, carrier selection, tracking, and on-site delivery coordination.

Loading & Unloading Procedures
Safe loading and unloading is critical when handling IBC tanks. A filled 275-gallon IBC weighs over 2,400 lbs -- mishandling can cause serious injury, property damage, or product loss. Here is how we handle each loading scenario.
Forklift Loading
The standard method for IBC handling. Our operators use 5,000-lb and 8,000-lb forklifts with IBC-rated forks. Tanks are lifted from the pallet base and placed directly onto the truck deck. For stacking, the lower tier is secured before the upper tier is loaded. Fork entry points are inspected before each lift to prevent pallet damage.
Liftgate Loading & Unloading
For delivery locations without a loading dock, our liftgate trucks lower a hydraulic platform to ground level. Tanks are rolled onto the liftgate using a pallet jack, then raised to truck-bed height. Our liftgates handle up to 3,000 lbs -- sufficient for a fully loaded 275-gallon IBC at water weight (approximately 2,400 lbs).
Ramp Loading
Some job sites and farms require ramp-based loading. Our box trucks feature built-in aluminum ramps rated for powered pallet jacks. This method is slower but works well for sites with uneven ground or no concrete pad. We carry portable ramps for locations that need additional access options.
Crane / Boom Truck
For elevated placements, rooftop installations, or locations behind fences and walls, we can coordinate a crane or boom truck. This service is quoted on a case-by-case basis and is common for rain harvesting systems mounted on elevated platforms or commercial rooftops.

East Coast Deliveries
LTL and FTL service to the entire Eastern Seaboard. Typical transit time is 4-7 business days for LTL. FTL direct loads arrive in 2-3 days with team drivers. Major destinations: New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte, Boston.
West Coast Deliveries

Regular service to Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, and the Carolinas. LTL transit is 3-6 business days. The I-35 corridor to Texas is one of our most active lanes with competitive rates. Major hubs: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, New Orleans.
Upper Midwest & Mountain States
We serve the entire northern tier from the Dakotas to Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and beyond. Many of these routes are on our direct flatbed service area, keeping costs lower than LTL for moderate quantities. Key markets: Bismarck, Billings, Boise, Cheyenne.
Freight Class Information
For LTL shipments, freight class determines the shipping rate. IBC tanks typically fall into NMFC (National Motor Freight Classification) classes based on density, handling requirements, and liability. Understanding freight class helps you anticipate shipping costs and compare carrier quotes.
| Class | Density | Applies To | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class 85 | 12-13.5 lbs/ft3 | Empty IBC tanks (standard) | Most common class for empty IBCs |
| Class 70 | 13.5-15 lbs/ft3 | Empty IBC tanks (stacked tight) | May qualify with efficient loading |
| Class 100 | 9-10.5 lbs/ft3 | Modified or oversized IBCs | Applies to tanks with large attachments |
| Class 150-200 | 6-8 lbs/ft3 | Filled IBCs (water weight) | Weight-limited; density determines class |
We handle all freight classification on your behalf. When you request a quote, we calculate the optimal loading configuration to achieve the lowest possible freight class and cost. For recurring shipments, we can set up volume discount agreements with our carrier partners.

What Affects Shipping Cost
Shipping costs for IBC tanks depend on several factors. Understanding them helps you plan your budget and identify opportunities to save.
Distance
The single largest cost driver. Local Omaha metro deliveries start at $0 (free for 5+ tanks). Cross-country FTL shipments may run $2,000-4,000 depending on lane.
Quantity
More tanks per shipment lowers the per-unit cost. A single tank shipped LTL might cost $150-300. That same tank on a full truckload with 79 others costs $25-50 per unit.
Empty vs. Filled
Filled IBCs are dramatically heavier (2,400+ lbs vs 130 lbs). Weight limits reduce the number of filled tanks per load and increase per-unit freight costs.
Access & Equipment
Deliveries requiring liftgate, inside delivery, or limited-access surcharges (residential, construction site) cost more than standard dock-to-dock.
Urgency
Standard scheduling is most cost-effective. Rush, same-day, and hot shot services carry premium fees ranging from $25 to 100%+ of the standard rate.
Fuel Surcharge
LTL carriers apply a variable fuel surcharge that fluctuates with diesel prices. We lock in rates at the time of booking so you know the exact cost upfront.
